This project involved the replacement and repair of existing structural elements in various buildings on site. Unique to this project was the level of deterioration which required not only substantial repairs, but in some cases, complete replacement of existing concrete columns and spandrel beams, and extensive bracing and shoring in order to complete the repairs. Difficulty was compounded by the fact that the building was fully occupied by residents during the work. Careful phasing and coordination between owner, contractor, shoring engineer, and architect was essential to ensure a safe, efficient, and economic repair program.
