9 Orchard Street

New York, NY

The historic Jarmulowsky Bank Building located at 9 Orchard Street is being converted into a luxury hotel. This landmark building in Lower Manhattan was constructed with a steel framed structure in 1912. The project includes a new horizontal addition in the form of a 6-story reinforced concrete building built on the adjacent lot and a 2-story structural steel vertical addition. Other key structural engineering tasks include a new reinforced concrete stair core built within the existing steel framed building, a new lateral system for the expanded building, new foundations, extensive fa├žade and building repairs, and the rebuilding of the rooftop domed spire structure, an essential architectural feature of the original building.
